Pavillon Ledoyen Paris

I do not go often to Michelin star restaurants but this was kind off not my own choice. Couple of year back I had a bet with the friend of mine when we were working together on project in London and I have lost..Strangely enough we cannot remember what was that all about (my suspicion is that it had something to do with my, at that time, exciting private life). I was supposed to pay for lavish dinner at Fat Duck but we could not get the timing right being on the different sides of Europe and later there was a famous temporary closure of the restaurant so we decided that we will do it somewhere else in Europe.
In February 2013 we were working on project in Paris so I let him choose the restaurant - his choice was Ledoyen, three Michelin star reputed place, located in Champs-Elysee....classy, what can I say.
Overall it was a good experience; both of us coincided in opinion that we would prefer a restaurant where they fuss less around you and a little bit less classic. However we went on expensive side and have chosen the menu to indulge ourselves. On start we had best champagne I have ever tasted in my life, sadly enough cannot remember the name. Apart from mysterious, strange tasting balls filled with apparently something with truffles (again both thought it tasted horribly strange ….maybe we are just not sophisticated enough). All dishes were perfectly balanced and crowned with three different, fantastic deserts. Champagne, wine, great food this hedonistic extravaganza was costly, maybe a little bit more than it should be, but certainly memorable

Mexico City - Quesadillas Maria Isabel

Back in early nineties when I lived in Mexico City, occasionally would go for quesadillas and where? Of course to Quesadillas Maria Isabel in Polanco. Coming back after fifteen years it felt good to see that absolutely nothing has changed, interior or menus. It is a simple place and if you are not a friend of deep fry, you should give it a miss....but it is your loss. Quesadillas de masa fresca are deep fried but do not feel oily or too heavy at all. Should try Flor de Calabaza con Queso ( Pumpkin flower with cheese ) at least. For those who are more "Gourmand" like me  Cesos ( Brains ) is a pure delight...don't forget to be generous with Cream and Salsa Verde on top of it.
P.S.

Took there couple of weeks ago colleague of mine, completely forgetting that it was his birthday that day. He looked around and said : "Hmm...my birthday lunch in Garage"....killed myself laughing

Mexico City - Breakfast, Maison Belen

Mexico City

How can you improve your day with simple things? If you are around Polanco in Mexico City , try to find Maison Belen in Emilio Castelar 31. There it is not only about food, coffee ( Illy - have to mention ) but about genuinely cute little jewel of the restaurant that charms you with smell of fresh baked brioche and doily patterns that adorn green painted wall...Absolutely delicious. After couple of stressful nights having breakfast there simply brightened my days

Garden Route - South Africa

One thing is for sure, for European standards food is cheap in South Africa. Small town of George in Western Cape did surprise me at least with one restaurant - The Royal Moose. Relaxed atmosphere and solid food. Crab Cake with Asian touch an absolute must...juicy and tasty. Wines - needless to say great choice
